Do the NHS provide Ear Wax Removal – Questions Answered

If you have recently found yourself experiencing the discomfort of blocked ears or even the relentless ringing caused by stubborn earwax – no doubt you’ll be looking for solutions. The first port of call for many would be to turn to the NHS for ear wax removal. But unfortunately times have changed and the services provided by the NHS are now much more limited.

Unfortunately, people suffering from ear wax issues can no longer get their ears cleared free of charge from a GP. This has been the case since 2020. Some GP’s have tried their best to offer the service for as long as possible but to no avail. There have been multiple campaigns to bring back the service but again, there has been no changes yet. As such the NHS no longer provides ear wax removal services.

Does the NHS still do ear cleaning?

GPs can only provide this service if the excess earwax has led to major hearing problems. In such situations, GPs can arrange for ear syringing through audiology services which is a specialist department. But that would only occur in extreme cases. If it is just a case of a build up of ear wax, they won’t be able to assist, This is because ear syringing is no longer considered a basic NHS service.

Is ear cleaning free in NHS?

If you are referred to audiology service then this will be free of charge. However, an immediate appointment is unlikely as  there may be delays in appointments due to backlogs so this may take time. However, if you need urgent treatment you can visit a pharmacist or contact us at Lancashire Hearing Care to get your ears cleaned.  We are also audiologists so if there are any other ear related concerns you have – we can assist.

Do The NHS Provide Ear Wax Removal

The NHS through your local GP will not provide ear wax removal as it is no longer considered an essential service. However, a referral to the audiology services for serious hearing loss related cases may result in the need for an ear wax removal.

So what are your options?

With the NHS no longer providing ear wax removal services there are other options available. If you’re based in Lancashire, we can help.

Here at Lancashire Hearing Care, we ‘re a team of experienced audiologists who oversee the entire ear wax removal process. Our audiologists have extensive knowledge and experience working directly with the NHS making us uniquely qualified to address any hearing-related concerns you may have.

If you’re struggling with hearing loss or experiencing any hearing-related issues, our audiologists can provide comprehensive assessments and recommend appropriate solutions.

Additionally, we specialise  in microsuction ear wax removal, a safe and highly effective procedure. Unlike traditional ear syringing, which can sometimes cause discomfort and complications, microsuction is a gentle, precise, and minimally invasive method for removing ear wax.

Microsuction involves using a specialised tool to suction out ear wax blockages carefully. This method is suitable for people of all ages, including children and the elderly. It provides immediate relief from symptoms like hearing loss, tinnitus, dizziness, and earaches.

We also understand that busy schedules and mobility challenges can get in the way of getting urgent treatment. For this reason we also provide a mobile clinic so we can come to you. But we also have the option for you to visit us at one of our locations which are conveniently placed at pharmacies across Lancashire.

Don’t let ear wax troubles interfere with your quality of life. Contact us today to schedule an appointment so we can help you regain clear, comfortable hearing. Your ears will thank you!
